Fr TREVOR COTTER

Fr Cotter was born to Denis and Emily Cotter on 7 September 1928. He studied at the Dominican College, Dublin and at Belvedere College before his studies for the priesthood at Mungret College, St John's Seminary and St Joseph's College, Upholland.

Ordained in 1959, Fr Cotter was appointed Parish Priest of St Mary Magdalen's in November 1980; he died on 10 November 2003.

"Senior members of the parish had a great love for him. He has been here at the start and finish of the building of the new church and has assisted two schools in Penwortham. He has overseen the pavilion erected on the school field and also converted the old church into a useable hall for the whole community."

"He came across as a quiet and gentle man - he will be sorely missed."

"Fr Cotter was totally devoted to the church; he served the parish with extraordinary devotion but ill health forced him to retire. Even with failing eyesight and ill health, he covered his pastoral duties very conscientiously and generously."

"He was a very private, shy man who didn't always find it easy to be a public figure and it was the sick and needy people who knew they could find a listener in Fr Cotter and a warm and generous heart."
