50 YEARS OF SERVICE

Terry Conway

50 years' dedication to the SVP was rewarded at St Mary Magdalen's, Penwortham with a presentation to Conference Secretary, Terry Conway.

It was in 1959 that Terry, then a mere youngster of 26, joined the SVP at St Raphael's in Millbrook, Stalybridge.

Between 1960 and 1962, he was President before moving to Penwortham where he joined the fledgling Conference at St Mary Magdalen's.

He assumed the duties of Vice-President until 1967 when he helped found a Conference at neighbouring St Teresa's; the Parishes and Conferences of St Mary Magdalen's and St Teresa's have now been merged.

He assumed the role of President until 1973 when he became secretary, a role he still holds today.

He became further involved with the Society when he was made District Council President in the late 70s and Central Council President for SW Lancs from 1981-84.

He served on National Council from 1981 until 1990.

In all he has been and officer of the Society since 1960.

He says his proudest moment was addressing the National Conference in the Isle of Man on the subject of unemployment.
