May the Angels lead her into Paradise

Katy Holmes

Katy is 10 yr. old  who lives in Penwortham, Preston, Lancashire and the daughter of Paula and Dave Holmes. On the 10th October 2011 Katy was diagnosed with a brainstem diffuse Pontine glioma.

On the 7th December 2011 Katy had completed 30 fractions of cranial radio therapy. In layman`s terms, Katy has a brainstem tumour that is highly aggressive, inoperable and terminal.

Katy Holmes, our lovely Head Girl at St. Mary Magdalen’s School, who has been ill with an inoperable brain tumour for some months, has died. I saw her last at Derian House on Monday 16th January 2012; where she was drifting in and out of sleep. When I gave her a blessing, she opened her eyes and tried to smile. I expect she has gone straight to heaven. Mysterious are God’s ways. May God’s strong support surround the family.

The following is the Press release prepared by Head teacher, Mrs Gallagher

Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Kat’s wonderful family at this time.

Everything you have read about Katy is true; she was an amazing girl with great courage and a deep faith. Katy always put other people before herself and was an extremely popular pupil. She was a super choice for Head Girl as she set such a wonderful example of kindness, good manners and happiness to the other pupils.

We have missed her greatly at school since she has been ill but she has never been far from our minds. Our school community have rallied wonderfully to provide funds to make Katy’s wishes come true and we are sorry that many were not possible because the illness took her so quickly.

We are proud that we can say that Katy Holmes was a pupil at St. Mary Magdalen’s and feel privileged to have shared her tragically short but extremely special life.
